June 2006: Downeast Energy Classic
BRUNSWICK, Maine, June 12, 2006 – Downeast Energy & Building Supply is pleased to announce that its 13th Annual Downeast Energy Classic raised $18,500 for Oasis Health Center. Thirty-six area business foursomes raised the monies through registrations, sponsorships, course raffles and a putting contest. Alliance Energy was a patron sponsor of this year’s event.
“We are very proud of the enthusiastic commitment of our business partners and clients to this charity golf tournament,” says Doug Morrell, Vice President of Downeast Energy. “This year marks the event’s largest gift to date to a local non-profit organization.”
“Volunteerism and charity fund raising are distinguishing characteristics of Downeast employees,” adds Bill Morrell, Vice President of Building Materials and Land Development. “More than twenty of our employees participated in support of free, non-emergency health care for eligible adults in Midcoast Maine.”
"Much thanks to the many Downeast employees, business partners and clients who made this event and wonderful gift possible,” says Peter McGuire, MD, Medical Director of Oasis Health Center. “The donation yields over $129,000 for the neediest of our neighbors."
Oasis Health Center cares for over 700 uninsured, low-income residents in the Bath-Brunswick area. Through its volunteers, especially the local physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses, the clinic is able to generate $7 of medical care for every donated dollar.
