May 2008: Downeast Energy Scholarships
BRUNSWICK, MAINE, May 19, 2008 – Downeast Energy & Building Supply has awarded 19 scholarships to high school students from Maine and children of employees of the company. Each of the 19 students will receive a $1000 each academic year (for four years?). This Plan is a formal arrangement under which Downeast Energy provides qualified undergraduate students with non-returnable grants of money to help them attend accredited post secondary schools and universities on a full-time basis in pursuit of bachelor's and associate degrees.
These are the students who will receive the scholarship, listed in alphabetical order:
1. Philip Andresen is a Rockland High School student planning to attend the University of Maine in Orono to study engineering.
2. Sara Adams is a Lisbon High School student planning to attend Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut to study biology in hopes of working in the field of scientific research.
3. John Beaumont is from Brunswick and is currently a dean’s list student in his third year at Wentworth School of Design in Boston.
4. Jacob Blake is a Brunswick High School student planning to attend Union College in Schenectady, New York, to major in computer science with a business administration minor.
5. Sara Bogue, from Wells, is currently a freshman at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania.
6. Chelsea Craig is from Kennebunk and will be attending the University of Southern Maine in the fall.
7. Maranda Duval is from Brunswick and is currently a dean’s list freshman at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
8. Brian Farley is a senior at York High School and is planning to go to University of Vermont.
9. Julie Fournier from North Yarmouth will be attending Smith College in the fall after volunteering this summer in Costa Rica with the Institute for Field Research Expeditions.
10. Michelle Fournier from North Yarmouth is in her third year of Grinnell College in Iowa majoring in biology with a concentration in Environmental Studies.
11. Conrad Gilman is a senior at Maranacook High School in Readfield and wants to study electrical engineering at the University of Maine in Orono.
12. Thomas Giroux, from Brunswick, is currently a freshman at Thomas College in Waterville and is studying criminal justice.
13. Brianne Humphrey, from Dresden, is currently a freshman at the University of Maine at Farmington and is studying for a B.A. degree in elementary education.
14. Erin Humphrey is a senior at Hall-Dale High School in Dresden and will be attending University of Southern Maine with a major in art in the fall.
15. Amelia Kiely from Freeport will be attending University of Maine studying secondary education.
16. Mark Lodge, from Alfred, is a sophomore at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester and has been a dean’s list student every semester.
17. Kimberly Smith is a senior at Mt. Ararat High School in Topsham and is planning to attend Fairfield University to study psychology and music.
18. Nick Trujillo from Durham is a freshman at Quinnipiac University and is studying in the sports medicine program.
19. Katherine Turner, from Brunswick, is in her first year at MIT and is enjoying the challenge and experience of the school.
Awards were based on a combination of selection factors including, but not limited to, scholastic merit and participation in extracurricular activities.
